The Mongolian Alphabet is a traditional writing system used for the Mongolian language, first developed in the early 13th century. It was adapted from the Old Uyghur script and is unique because it is written vertically from top to bottom and read from left to right. The script has 35 main letters and has gone through several changes over time to match different dialects and modern usage. It is still used in Inner Mongolia (China), while in Mongolia, the Cyrillic alphabet became more common in the 20th century.
The Mongolian script includes separate forms for consonants and vowels, with letters changing shape depending on their position in a word. It is known for its elegant, flowing design that looks beautiful in both handwritten and printed form. Today, the Mongolian Alphabet is being revived in education, digital tools, and cultural projects, symbolizing national pride and the deep history of the Mongolian language.
