The Mro Alphabet is used to write the Mro language, spoken by the Mro people living mainly in the hilly regions of Bangladesh and Myanmar. It was created in the 1980s by Menlay Murang, a member of the Mro community, to give the language its own writing system and to preserve their culture. Before this alphabet was made, the Mro people used oral traditions and other scripts for writing.
The script includes unique symbols for consonants and vowels and is written from left to right. Each letter was carefully designed to reflect the sounds of the Mro language, making it easier for native speakers to learn and read. The Mro Alphabet is now taught in local schools and used in community writings and publications, helping the Mro people keep their language alive for future generations.
