The Ugaritic Alphabet is one of the world’s oldest known alphabets, used around 1400 BCE in the ancient city of Ugarit, located in present-day Syria. It was written on clay tablets using a cuneiform style, but unlike other cuneiform scripts, it represented individual alphabetic letters rather than syllables. The Ugaritic script has 30 letters and is written from left to right. On this page, you will find a detailed section of Ugaritic letters, symbols, characters, and script information that highlights its historical importance as one of the earliest alphabetic systems.

The Ugaritic language was a Semitic language closely related to Hebrew and Phoenician, and its alphabet influenced many later writing systems. Each Ugaritic character carries deep linguistic and cultural value, offering insight into ancient communication and recordkeeping. The letters are studied today by historians and linguists to understand the origins of alphabetic writing. These timeless symbols continue to represent the creativity and intelligence of early civilizations that shaped how humans write and share knowledge.
