Khudawadi Alphabet

The Khudawadi Alphabet is a script that was used to write the Sindhi language, mainly in the Sindh region, which is now part of Pakistan and India. It developed during the 16th century and was used widely in business, education, and personal writings before modern printing became common. The script was derived from the Landa family of scripts and was designed to be simple and quick to write, making it very popular among merchants and record keepers in the region.

Written from left to right, the Khudawadi script includes distinct letters for vowels and consonants, allowing it to capture the sounds of the Sindhi language accurately. It was later replaced by the Arabic-based Sindhi script in Pakistan and Devanagari in India. However, Khudawadi remains an important part of Sindhi cultural and linguistic history, representing a period when local scripts flourished as tools of trade, education, and regional identity.
